On this edition of Century: Kratom in Montana. The Montana Legislature is between sessions. Work continues howeve, r, with proposed legislation being drafted and interim committees discussing legislation to be introduced in the 2027 session. One of the topics Montana legislators are working on is kratom, and the question legislators are asking is whether to regulate or just ban the substance. The Montana Legislature’s Economic Affairs Interim Committee met May 19 to consider draft legislation on kratom and take public testimony. We hear portions of that hearing on this week’s show including testimony from Yellowstone County Health Officer Jonathan Forte, Jay Yeager, Amanda Cahill representing the Confluence Public Health Alliance, Mac Haddow. Senior fellow on public policy with the American Kratom Association, EJ Redding representing the Montana Kava and Kratom Association, and Doctor Madeline Turner, a family medicine and addiction medicine physician in Helena, MT.
