This week on Century of Lies: Synthetic Drugs Part Two. We continue our coverage of the two-day meeting of UNODC’s Synthetic Drug Strategy Expert Group on January 30 and 31. Discussions focused on international integrated responses in four key areas: multilateralism, counternarcotics enforcement, early warning systems, and health responses. On this edition of Century we hear presentations by three of the speakers: Martin Raithelhuber, an Illicit Synthetic Drugs Expert at UNODC; Tatiana Jehl, a Drug Policy Officer in UNODC’s Drugs Laboratory and Scientific Services Branch; and Giovanna Campello, Chief of UNODC’s Prevention, Treatment, and Rehabilitation Section.

We hear from Kamran Niaz, an epidemiologist at UNODC, on Stimulant Use Patterns as shown in UNODC’s 2023 World Drug Report; Professor Steven Shoptaw, PhD, Director of UCLA’s Center for Behavioral and Addiction Medicine, on Established and Emerging Psychosocial Interventions for Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorders; and Doctor Nadine Ezard, Doctor Brendan Clifford, and Doctor Krista Siefried, all with Australia’s National Centre for Clinical Research on Emerging Drugs, on Emerging Pharmacological Interventions for the Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorders.
